Kinda like these shots, not just because they capture some fun days we had larking around on the SUP boards a couple of weeks ago, but because they give an idea of what the GoPro camera is capable of when you use it to shoot other people, and not just stick it on a mount and point it back towards yourself.

You do hear all sorts of scare stories about the locals throwing stones at visiting surfers and car breaks ins and so on, and whilst I’m sure there’s no smoke without fire and that the Latino Islanders can be very protective of certain waves, the vibe in the water in these mellow waves was rather relaxed and jovial.

The thing is though, Lanzarote, unlike much of Europe, has no continental shelf sapping the energy from the waves. So what may have been a head high swell when it hits the UK looks a lot like this when it slams into the lava reefs of Lanza…
